As a pet owner and lover, you've probably seen offers for Pet Insurance. The question is whether or not it's worth the monthly cost? Just like any insurance policies, you're hoping you never need it. Of course, auto insurance is required in all states. With health insurance, it covers your major costs in the event of a serious problem. And life coverage leaves the beneficiaries with something to help take care of them.
Pet Insurance: Something to consider? We all know that most pets don't live as long as humans, and tend to develop "old age" conditions earlier in life. Or an active critter may get injured in an accident. The costs to help treat your loved one can be more than you think. But if they end up with a major situation, the expenses can be higher than imaginable.
Just to describe our experience, our little dog developed a tumor on his head and it turned out to be cancerous. He is 12 years old, very active and happy, and the love of our lives. We would do anything to keep him happy and with us. The cost of the surgery, analysis, and CT scan were in the many thousands of dollars. Fortunately, we decided a while ago to take the risk on an insurance plan and they have been covering the majority of the costs. He will be going through radiation treatments soon and we'll try our best to keep him happy and as healthy as long as possible. The monthly policy costs are tiny compared to what they would have been without the coverage.
The plans don't cover everything. It's kind of like "Major Medical" for your pet. We won't endorse any specific company, but you can find the Top-10 list at https://www.consumersadvocate.org/pet-insurance/a/best-pet-insurance
We happen to be using the #1 company and they are extremely helpful and friendly. Many veterinarians will submit the bill directly to them. Otherwise, you get a reimbursement for most of the cost of the procedures.
It's not for everyone, but if you don't want to make a decision on your pets' future based on a major cost, you should consider the Pet Insurance option.
